HJEMME.
2025
For thirteen years, I've been immersed in the world of (building) construction, a world I celebrate in this ode. One of the primary building materials, the unsung hero of 'Hjemme's' creation, is the 'badding'. This name, unique to the craft, has no direct English equivalent. Think of it as a robust joist, typically fashioned from Oregon or Douglas Fir. I've always been captivated by the striking Chili red paint that adorns the ends, a vibrant contrast to the raw, textured feel of the wood itself, so different from the smooth, planed surfaces. These days a "badding" can be found in many homes. Hjemme is Norwegian for home and Norway is a place I feel home. The capital letter H can be found in the red paint.
Hjemme was designed and built to exhibit at Redkettle Gallery.
Materials: Douglas/Oregon fir, Red paint
